Employee Relations Consultant

Overall Job Objective, role and responsibilities

Job Purpose

  • To provide specialist legal advice and counselling to management and employees in regard to employment related matters

Overall Role Requirement

  • Must be able to assess and mitigate risk to the Company in regard to employment related best practices and procedures, and provide advice and counseling in an HR advisory role

Measureable Outputs
The following is required of the ER Consultant:

  • To consult with the business on ER requirements - to manage processes, facilitate discussions, provide advice and counseling
  • To have a strong business focus and an understanding of the internal workings of an investment bank.
  • To have a passion for people.
  • To draft and amend employment related legal contracts
  • To network and build relationships with stakeholders (internal and external)
  • To maintain the utmost confidentiality in regard to every aspect of the role
  • To be proactive in regard to management reporting
  • To assist with policy review and drafting in order to meet changing legislative requirements and business needs
  • To provide labour advice to management and employees 
  • To process death, disability and OID Act claims
  • To schedule and monitor disciplinary hearings (i.e. record and minute proceedings and ensure procedural matters have been adhered to)
  • To load and maintain the Employee Relations data on the HR IT system and compiling reports when required
  • To perform the administrative functions related to all ER processes, including reporting and trend analysis
  • To be proactive, a self-starter and an effective team-player
Skills, Experience and Education

Experience

  • At least 5 years employee relations experience
  • Strong banking knowledge
  • Thorough knowledge of labour legislation

Education:

  • Appropriate law degree  (i.e. B Com LLB or BA LLB)

OR

  • Legal Qualification
  • 1 – 3 years experience in Procurement contracts
  • Must be willing to move into ER
